We are thrilled to share the remarkable success of the international workshop organized by ÅKP AS as part of the ZEVinnovation project in Aalesund, Norway. This dynamic event brought together Croatian, Norwegian, and Polish companies with the shared goal of fostering collaboration and driving innovation in the zero-emission vessels.

The workshop served as a meeting place for engaging discussions, knowledge sharing, and networking opportunities. Participants were able to explore potential synergies, exchange best practices, and identify pathways for joint projects and partnerships. It was truly inspiring to witness the passion and expertise of industry leaders from these three nations coming together to accelerate sustainable transportation solutions.

With a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability in the maritime industry, the workshop showcased the potential of cross-border collaboration in shaping the future of zero-emission vessels. The diversity of perspectives and experiences brought by transnational participants laid the foundation for fruitful cooperation and mutual growth.

By harnessing the collective strength and expertise of Croatian, Norwegian, and Polish companies, we learned solutions to make significant advancements in green maritime technologies.

We extend sincere appreciation to AAKP and all the participants for their active engagement and commitment to the ZEVinnovation project. The collaborative efforts like these can push the boundaries of innovation, transform the transportation landscape, and create pathways for a greener, more sustainable future. Together, we can drive the transition towards zero-emission vessels and create a positive impact on both the environment, industry and society as a whole.

All ZEVinnovation project partners gathered in Zagreb where, on Monday March 20. 2023, the workshop “𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬-𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨-𝐄𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬” was held.

Participants had the opportunity to learn more about sources of financing development projects, talk with representatives of institutions that provide support, see presentations of innovative solutions in the field of zero emissions in the maritime sector, and find out how to use intellectual property in practice.

The European Commission presented to the public the European Green Plan at the end of 2019, which aims to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. For many innovative companies, this is sufficient motivation to introduce products on the market that will meet the set goals of the European Commission.

Croatia is also moving toward implementing the European Green Plan, which could soon be accompanied by an innovative and “green” transport system for the island. An initiative called “Autonomous electric ships for smart islands and cities” is being launched, and it will be signed on Monday, October 25, at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Zagreb. It was initiated by FER, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, the Center of Transfer Technology, the Nikola Tesla Innovation Center, and the technology company iCat d.o.o.
It is the production of high-speed electric passenger catamarans for inter-island passenger transport. 94 passengers could board the vessel, which would be 17 meters long, 7 meters wide, and sail at 30 knots.
ICat is a technologically advanced catamaran designed to be ultralight. In addition to modern technologies in hull construction and options for electric, hybrid, or highly efficient diesel drives, iCat creates economically justified, and at the same time “green” passenger lines.

The ship is intended for inter-island ferry lines according to the suburban transport model, connecting islands and cities into one.

A new initiative called “Autonomous electric ships for smart islands and cities” will develop modern ships powered by only “green” fuels with zero emissions. According to the project authors, technologically advanced propulsion is coupled with partial or complete autonomy, where passenger safety comes first, and autonomous docking is the first development step.

This Webinar’s main objective is to define how do we ensure that rules and regulations with energy efficiency in mind, are not considered as obstacles on the way to the low- and zero-emission future.

The webinar had been organized as part of the ZEVinnovation project, funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norway Grants Fund for Regional Cooperation designed to support innovation, education, research and competitiveness across the EEA.
